The A/B Tankerman will be responsible for safely loading and unloading tank barges and follow USCG regulations. The Tankerman will assist with the safe and careful operation of a marine vessel. The A/B Tankerman’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Safely perform the duties of the person in charge of transferring liquid products onboard tank barges.
  • Safely and efficiently carry out the duties of a member of the deck crew onboard Offshore Towing Vessels.
  • Perform house cleaning duties & maintenance on deck, in the engine room, on the barge or accommodations as instructed by the Captain on duty.
  • Perform all vessel maintenance to include cleaning, scraping, painting, and assisting in engine room duties.
  • Carry out operational or maintenance work ashore, outboard, a tow, a project etc. as required by the Captain or Company Management.
  • Responsible for standing watch on the bridge and on deck as required.
  • Perform all duties while wearing protective equipment including PVC foul weather gear, life jacket, gloves, helmet, and boots.
  • Assist with the training of newly hired employees.
  • Inspect and notify the Captain of any conditions, which will affect the safety of the operation. The A/B Tankerman has the obligation and authority to stop his activity or act at his discretion whenever unsafe, non-conforming or when confliction situations arise and is under the obligation to notify the Captain.
  • Safe handling of lines to make fast tie off as required during operations; to serve as lookout/observation post when needed during maneuvers and pass information to Captain and crew as needed.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
  • A valid driver's license with acceptable driving record is required.
  • A valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential (T.W.I.C.) is required.
  • A valid Merchant Mariners Document endorsed as an Able Seaman and Tankerman-PIC (Barge) (DL) is required.
  • No spills or violations in the last 12 months are required.
  • Must satisfactorily complete USCG Physical CG-719k. This exam includes visual acuity, color vision, hearing and speech discrimination as well as medical evaluation and physical assessment. The applicant must also acknowledge all prescribed and OTC medications and complete a thorough medical history.
  • Fundamental knowledge of maintenance procedures, tools, and equipment onboard offshore liquid tows is required.
  • Must be flexible to work any work schedule is required.
  • Ability to get along with others in close quarters is required.
  • Ability to be able to communicate clearly with office, vessel crew and dock personnel is required.
